Gleanings for July 31

HONOR YOUR MOM

             Proverbs 32: 10, 30 & 31 Amplified Bible:  “A capable, intelligent, and

 virtuous woman---who can find her?

“She is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls.

“Charm and grace are deceptive and beauty is vain (because it is not lasting), but a woman who reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord, she shall be praised!

“Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her.”

July 31 was my mom’s birthday.  She has been in heaven for many years now but the date of her birthday stays in my heart; Mom was a special person!!

I trust you can say that of your mom as well.  The Amplified Bible has the following comments on a “Virtuous Woman”:

“All seven of the Christian virtues (2 Peter 1:5) are in this chapter; like colored threads in a tapestry.  Her secret, which is open to everyone, is the Holy Spirit’s climax to the story, and to this book.

“In Proverbs 31:30, it becomes clear that the reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord,” which is “the beginning (the chief and choice part) of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10), is put forth as the true foundation for a life which is valued by God and her husband as “far above rubies or pearls (Proverbs 31:10).

Please read verses 10 – 31 of this final chapter of the book of Proverbs.

This woman was not “just a housewife” she was a “business woman” and a wonderful Mother.  I’m sure many of you can say that of your mothers as well.

You may have guessed that the love and appreciation I feel for my Mom has stayed strong even after all the years she has not been with us “in her physical body”.

Moms and Dads, what will be the legacy you leave when you go to your final reward?

Even children can begin to think about the influences they are having on other person’s lives.  Each one of us will leave a mark in the life of someone.

Let us all aim for the following qualities as listed in verses 25 -29:

“Strength and dignity are her clothing and her position is strong and secure; she rejoices over the future.  She opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness (giving counsel and instruction.)

“She looks well to how things go in her household, and the bread of idleness (gossip, discontent, and self-pity) she will not eat.

“Her children rise up and call her blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied); and her husband boasts of and praises her, (saying),

“Many daughters have done virtuously, nobly, and well (with the strength of character that is steadfast in goodness), but you excel them all.”

As we follow those virtues, we will also know in our hearts:

THE JOY OF THE LORD IS OUR STRENGTH!!!
