Gleanings for October 3

Strong Foundation

Hebrews 6:17 – 20 NLB & NKJ:  “God also bound Himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that He would never change His mind.  So God has given us both His promise and His oath.

“These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie.  Therefore, we who have fled to Him for refuge can take new courage, for we can hold on to His promise with (true hope) which is CONFIDENCE.”

.           This HOPE we have as an anchor of the soul, is both sure and steadfast.  It leads us through the curtain of heaven into God’s inner sanctuary; Jesus has already gone in there for us.  He has become our eternal High Priest…”

God’s Promises make for a solid foundation (anchor) in our lives!  An anchor is only as secure as that to which it is fastened. That statement reminds me of the two houses Jesus taught about in His Sermon on the Mount.  One was built on “sand” and the other on a solid foundation; “Rock”.

Jesus began that parable with these words:  Matthew 7: 24:  “Whoever hears (listens) to My teaching and OBEYS Me is wise, like the person who builds a house on solid rock.” Then verse 26:  “But anyone who hears My teaching and IGNORES it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.”

OBEDIENCE makes the Anchor secure, even as it was the substance that helped the wise person to build “on the Rock”.  You might ask:  “Can I TRUST the Person I have chosen to be my anchor, so much so,  that I will walk in OBEDIENCE to the things I am asked to do?  A good test in answering that question is:  Will I obey the request Jesus made in the following scripture:

Matthew 6:33:  “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”  When you have come to trust Jesus because you KNOW He has integrity and cannot lie, I believe it will be easier for you to look to HIM as your STRONG FOUNDATION and ANCHOR.

Integrity is necessary in the natural world but also very much top priority for someone as they consider eternity.  Nelsons’ Bible Dictionary definition for integrity is:  “Honesty, sincerity, singleness of purpose.  Jesus called for purity of heart; singleness of purpose; and purity of motive.”

TRUST will be there when you find someone who has integrity as described above.  I recommend to you:  JESUS:   He meets those qualifications, and more.  Let Him be your Anchor of Hope.

His integrity is UNLIMITED.  The security He has for you will not fail.   He will prove to be your strength:

THE JOY OF THE LORD IS YOUR STRENGTH!
