Gleanings for May 9

A BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE

Malachi 3: 16 NKJV:  “Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord listened and heard them; so a BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and who meditate on His name.”

For the most part, Grandma’s Gleanings are thoughts inspired by scripture; at times I include experiences from family, friends or a personal happening which I think might be of interest to you who read the devotional messages.

This journaling began in the early 1970’s.  New spiritual awakenings were heard throughout our nation.  As a family, we were hungry for a close walk with the Lord.  It was our desire to get “under the spout where the Glory comes out!”

Jerry, my husband, finished Seminary in 1954.  We served churches in South Dakota and Minnesota for 25 years.  As the family grew, we spent summer vacation time at Swineborne Resort (now Birch Haven) located on Gull Lake near Tenstrike, Minnesota.  (This was the early 1960’s) The entire family loved Northern Minnesota so we purchased land on Gull Lake (near Tenstrike) and when Jerry took an early retirement, (in 1977) everyone wanted to move up here with us.

We purchased a Wausau Home which the family moved into in late October.  Until that time, everyone lived in a two bedroom Mobile Home (12x64).  The boys slept in a camper, Steve and Joyce in an 8 foot trailer, the girls and Dad & Mom got the bedrooms!  WOW!  Talk about togetherness!

We had been told that employment would be difficult for the children who needed work, however, the Lord provided jobs for both Chris and Dave; Tim and Julie were still in school.  Steve and Joyce were waiting for their first child, due in October.

Steve and Jerry opened a Christian Counseling Office in Bemidji. To help supplement funds, Steve got a job milking cows for a large dairy farmer. The Lord opened the door for me to begin working at Morell’s Trading Post, a Gift Shop in Bemidji, Minnesota.

The faithfulness of our Father God is the real purpose for writing Grandma’s Gleanings.  It is my prayer that as you read these devotions and some more of our experiences, you will be drawn closer to JESUS.  He wants you to KNOW Him in a very intimate, personal relationship.

Take time each day to read the Word for yourself.  There is LIFE in God’s Word!  A noted Bible teacher, Bill Gothard, shares that he was failing school as a 2nd grader.  He was inspired to read and memorize the book of Proverbs.

The results from his doing this, speak for themselves.  He now often speaks to and teaches thousands, not only in person but via video.  Health and wholeness is connected to obeying God’s Word.

Isaiah 1:19 says this:  “If you are willing and OBEDIENT, you will eat the good of the land.”

REMEMBER:  THE JOY OF THE LORD IS YOUR STRENGTH!!!
