Promises of the Coming Messiah

Revelation 22: 13 NKJV “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”

Revelation 22: 16 NKJV “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches.  I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”

The glory of God’s redeeming work is immediately announced; even in the same verse of scripture as the judgment for the Fall of Mankind was given. We shared the verse in yesterday’s devotion which told of that promise. We will share other prophetic confirmations from scripture in the days ahead.

The quotations in our Grandma’s Gleanings about the Messianic Promises will be from Dr. Jack Hayford III who is the son of Pastor Jack Hayford, Senior Pastor of the Church on the Way, Van Nuys, California.

Dr. Hayford is a Research Chemist who has verified the trustworthiness of the prophetic truths of the Bible through systematic study.  His thoughts today are as follows:

“Two prophetic stars shine brightest in God’s Word: The “Morningstar” and the “Daystar.”  The first, heralds the coming of the new day (Revelation 22:16—Greek, astar) fulfilled in our Lord Jesus Christ.

He has already fulfilled the promised coming Messiah, heralding a yet future day when He shall come again.

“He Who fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies has been announced as the other “Morningstar” (2 Peter 1:19---Greek, phosphoros), the rising sun that not only heralds the coming day but rules it!!

Scripture which confirms that truth is:  “So we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts”

“In the New Testament, Jesus promises, “I will come again,” and with that promise He holds in form a cluster of attendant promises to be fulfilled when He does.”

All the “prophetic words”---“promises” God made in the Old Testament have come to pass, OR they WILL come to pass.  Please read II Peter 1: 16 - 21 It speaks of the “trustworthiness of the scriptures”.

Verse 21 says this:  “For prophecy never came by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”

That is an important truth for you to remember as we go through the various promises (and their fulfillment) that were made in regard to the coming of Jesus, our Savior.
